My last university open day was at King’s College London, looking at their Nursing and Sport and Exercise Medical Science courses, and today I visited the University of Brighton’s Falmer Campus to take a look at their Nursing and Paramedic Science courses.
University of Brighton: Falmer
The Universities of Brighton and Sussex, which I visited last year, are the closest to home for me. It takes 30/45 minutes by car or 1/1.5 hours by train to get there, so it’s super handy that it’s so close to home! My friend, Ellen, actually starts at this uni to do English in September so not only was I having a nosey around for my own interests, I also wanted to see the kind of school that she was going to as well!
We didn’t park on campus, we parked just down the road, but it was a lovely sunny day and it wasn’t a very long walk to get to the university. The university is situated right by Falmer train station which is super handy for Brighton students, and also Sussex students as it is just over the road!
The campus isn’t huge, which is good if you like quiet places and it’s also outside of the city so you’re surrounded by the countryside. Stanmer Park is only just over the road! If you love city life, however, Brighton is only 9 minutes away by train or 25 minutes on the bus!
Once registered, me and my mum grabbed a quick iced coffee as it was so warm from the on site Starbucks! The cafe which served Starbucks was also located in the same building as the student union shop, which we didn’t go in. Outside there were several information desks for things such as sport, finance, accommodation, disability & dyslexia and the student union. We spoke to and picked up information from a few of them.
We wondered around some of the buildings and had a peek around a Psychology lab. We were going to attend a Nursing talk, but I then decided against it because Brighton has never been a top choice of uni for me as they don’t really do the course I want. I did think that the university was very nice though and I’d probably apply there had they had the course I wanted!
Whilst I was there I had a look inside an ambulance with a stimulator inside that they use to train their paramedics and it was so interesting. I also had a quick look at the sports centre too!
I hope you enjoyed reading about my experience at Brighton. I enjoyed it but I am not going to apply to go there. In my last post I said I was also going to go to St George’s, Portsmouth and Southampton, however I have also decided to visit the University of Surrey too.
Thanks for reading – do you like the sound of Brighton?
