Hello everyone! I thought I would put an end to writing about all things university by doing a little travel diary/blog series thing about my holiday in Lanzarote. I also haven’t done a ‘Travel’ post in a while so I gathered it would mix things up a little!
I’m in Lanzarote from today (Thursday 11th July) until next Thursday (18th July) – so that means that there will hopefully be a new blog post every day for the next week! I will try and take as many photographs as I can but I know that there isn’t really that many for today!
Thursday 11th July
I woke up bright and early at 3am in order to get up and head out to the airport. I didn’t need to pack anything extra luckily as I had already packed everything and my mum made me coffee to energise me a little!! My aunt came and picked us up from home to drop us at the airport as it was too early for any buses or trains to be running – but we had to go at that time so we were at the airport two hours before our flight, which was at 6:10am. To the airport I tried to wear the comfiest clothes I could find. I wore my Lululemon leggings and a comfy oversized sweatshirt!
When I got to the airport, it was really busy as there was a problem with the control system and all flights were suspended for a while the evening before. Thankfully though, I got through bag drop and security quite quickly! As always, I was randomly chosen to go through the big full body scanner – so was my dad!
Airside, I grabbed a caramel latte and a muffin from Starbucks as it wasn’t THAT busy! The gate information was announced when I was there so I headed to the gate immediately afterwards, muffin in tow of course! After a short bus ride, I boarded almost straight away onto my flight and I peacefully munched on my muffin whilst waiting for the flight to leave. It was slightly delayed in leaving as the aircraft had to be refuelled – we ended up leaving at about 25 past six instead of ten past!
The flight was 3 and 3/4 hours, so I had some time to kill! On the flight, I played a little bit of a new game that I bought for my Nintendo Switch (Super Mario Maker 2), watched a bit of Guardians of The Galaxy (I bought the DVD!) and I did some colouring in a Crayola Color Wonder book that I bought in Sainsbury’s – I used to love them as a child so I just decided to buy another one for the plane. It’s Toy Story themed! I also had a small pot of porridge, some peach iced tea and some hot chocolate on the flight, and I wanted to buy some makeup from the on flight duty free but my mum wouldn’t let me (even though they had 20% off!)
When I arrived, I got through Passport Control super quick and baggage claim was quite fast as well. We then had to collect the hire car – we got a Nissan Qashqai as it’s the same car as the one we have at home! My mum doesn’t like the Spanish one though because it’s all backwards! Once we found the car, we headed towards Playa Blanca…
…or should I say we headed somewhere completely different because our car satnav/GPS doesn’t seem to know where Playa Blanca is! I had to use Waze on my phone to guide us in the correct direction. We found it eventually – and our villa! We couldn’t go in the Villa straight away because there were cleaners etc. there but we parked up nearby and went to explore the marina (Marina Rubicon).
We had some lunch at the marina – I had a hamburger and a slice of my mum’s pizza. We also looked around a few shops. After that, we could finally go into the villa!
Within about half an hour – I was in the pool! It was great fun! I did have to nip out for a bit to grab a pair of sunglasses because I was squinting so much and we grabbed another lilo because the one we bought was very small!
In the early evening, we went out for dinner at the same place we had lunch, Lani’s. This time, though, I had spaghetti bolognese followed by ice cream as I had a sore throat.
Now, I have just come back from dinner and I’m writing this blog post. There are also discussions about what may happen tomorrow. We may go into Playa Blanca (town)!
I hope you enjoyed the first post of this mini series!
